Thermomix® TM7 vs TM6: A Personal Review and Upgrade Guide from a Former Advisor

Hello everyone,

I’m Sara de Miguel. With over 12 years advising Thermomix users in the UK and Ireland as an Independent Thermomix Advisor and Team Leader– and more than 22 years as part of the Thermomix family – I’ve seen firsthand how these machines can transform everyday cooking. Not only has it revolutionized my own kitchen, but I’ve also witnessed countless clients experience the same transformation, making cooking easier, more enjoyable, and even life-changing for many.

My journey began when my mother bought her very first TM31, and since then, every new release has brought meaningful improvements that make cooking simpler and more enjoyable.

I am no longer an Independent Thermomix advisor, but as a client I wasn’t entirely surprised that another upgrade was in the works, but after the TM6 limited edition sparkling black and white variants appeared at the end of 2024, I was genuinely taken aback when, on 14th February in Berlin, the new TM7 was unveiled. A Valentine’s Day launch – good to see the Germans have a romantic side!

The TM6 has transformed my cooking experience. Its so easy to use, I love the shortcut modes like egg boiler or pre-clean and the improvements in cookidoo made my life a lot easier. Particularly, the created recipes allowing me to save my own ‘TM6 freestyle’ recipes. I love that my recipes are neatly stored on Cookidoo, freeing me from the clutter of handwritten notes and recipe cards flying around the kitchen. A tidy kitchen truly does lead to a tidy mind.

A timeline of all Thermomix Bimby models from the past 50 years, starting with the early VM2000 and VKM5 models, followed by TM3300, TM21, TM31, TM5, TM6, and the latest TM7
My family joined the Thermomix Family with the TM31 model 22 years ago. When did you join?

Over the last six years, the TM6 has evolved remarkably through simple software updates, and the addition of new accessories like peeler, cutter, TM Sensor, which has made my baking far more reliable by eliminating the need for constant checking on my inaccurate oven. Now, with the TM7 on the horizon, and after attending a recent webinar in Ireland with the Team Leader Ewelina alongside extensive research online, I’m excited to share my honest comparison of the new TM7 versus TM6 with the information I have received to date. I cannot wait to see it in person but I will have to wait a little bit more for that.

Let’s dive in and explore whether the latest model offers enough enhancements to make it the next must-have in your kitchen!

TM7 Review -How does Thermomix TM7 compare to TM6?

1.Design & Aesthetics

  • Colour: Black

I was surprised that the TM7 comes in just one colour – a sleek, modern black. Although I've always loved the clean, timeless feel of white in my own kitchen, I can appreciate the bold statement that black makes. In fact, a client survey revealed that:

    • 50% of users prefer black

    • 25% prefer white

    • 25% prefer other colours

It’s clear that black was the top choice, making this a strategic decision by Thermomix!

  • Modular Build

The TM7 now consists of a separate base and bowl, making it incredibly portable. This design, reminiscent of the TM Friend base, allows for easy transportation – whether you’re cooking in a different room or taking it on holidays, you no longer have to lug around a heavy machine. In fact, I can now easily take my Thermomix on the plane with me! Yes, I do take my Thermomix to Spain with me.

Plus, the built-in slider is a brilliant touch, showing that Thermomix has truly prioritised ease of use.

2.Display & Interface

  • 10-Inch Touchscreen

The standout feature of the TM7 is the 10-inch multi-touch display, a noticeable upgrade from the TM6’s 6.8-inch screen.

Larger display for a more intuitive and engaging guided cooking experience;

✅ Feels like having an iPad in your kitchen;

Durable – I’ve seen it withstand a few knocks without damage (though I wouldn’t recommend testing that at home!).

It is true that the TM7 footprint is slightly larger than the TM6.

3.Cooking Accessories & Functionality

  • Bigger Varoma® Set

One of my favourite new features is the larger, rectangular Varoma, which is 45% bigger than the TM6 version. I often say in my TM cooking course that the Varoma is like my best friend – it allows for multi-level cooking, saving me loads of time.

For example, when preparing a full meal by steaming vegetables, fish, and rice simultaneously, it’s a bit tight with the TM6, but it will be much easier with the TM7.

Using the Varoma even when a recipe doesn’t call for it has been my biggest time-saver with Thermomix. Do you use it regularly too?

  • Lid Cap & Mixing Bowl Lid

✅ Lid Cap: Replaces multiple older accessories (measuring cup, splash guard, and the simmering basket on top of the bowl), making cooking more streamlined and less clutter in the kitchen cupboards.

✅ Mixing Bowl Lid:

  • Automatically detected by the machine, unlocking new cooking possibilities.

  • Allows Open Cooking up to 100°C and Unlocked Cooking up to 120°C at low speeds.

  • Automatically locks above speed 2, a welcome improvement that makes cooking even more seamless. I am looking forward to trying this.

  • Stainless Steel Mixing Bowl

The bowl remains at a 2.2L capacity, but now it’s a durable stainless steel design with an integrated heating system and insulation cover for safer handling when hot. Although it’s about 650g heavier than the TM6, I appreciate the quieter operation and the sleek, textural finish. Plus, the fact that the inside is all stainless steel means it’s easy to clean.

  • Knife Locking Lever – My Favourite Change!

The new knife locking lever is, in my opinion, the biggest improvement. Here is why:

Easier assembly and disassembly – no more struggling with misaligned blades!

Prevents spills – no more liquids leaking into the base.

Designed wiggle room – absorbs vibrations during kneading for stability and performance.

I’ve had frustrating moments in the past, trying to remove the bowl only to realise the blades weren’t locked properly – or worse, cleaning up a messy spill. This small but powerful change will save time and prevent unnecessary hassle.

  • Spatula with Built-In Dough Releaser

The spatula upgrade is another great touch:

✅ Larger & more efficient for scraping and scooping.

Built-in dough releaser – no more sticking!

No longer needed to push ingredients down when making sorbet for example.

  • Potential for Future Expansion

A bigger bowl could be coming! While not officially confirmed, the TM7 design suggests that a larger mixing bowl could be an option in the future. Cooking bigger quantities than 2.2L would be a fantastic addition – and something I know my husband would love!

4.Performance and Innovative Features - TM7 features

A cross-section view of the Thermomix TM7, revealing its internal hardware, including the powerful motor, heating system, cooling vents, electronic components, and mixing mechanism.
A rare inside look at the Thermomix TM7 – showcasing its powerful motor, advanced heating system, and precision engineering that make it the most innovative model yet.

The TM7 comes with a host of thoughtful upgrades. Here’s my personal take:

  • Enhanced Motor:

With a range from 40 to 10,700 rpm, the motor is powerful yet remarkably quiet. I’ve often found myself checking on my TM6 fermenting yoghurt at night just to appreciate how little noise it makes when the blades don’t move—so it is great to see such a subtle but very satisfying improvement in the TM7. I imagine if you are grating cheese, it will still make noise but it will be quieter at lower speeds which is great.

  • New Cooking Modes

    • Open Cooking: Allows you to cook at up to 100°C with little or no blade movement. This is brilliant for tasks like cooking pasta or seasoning, giving you the freedom of a traditional stove without having to wait for the arms to open.

    • Browning Mode: Now available without the need for a fixed recipe, offering more creative freedom. I love making caramelised onions, and being able to manually set the temperature above 120°C will be a game changer—no more having to follow exact amounts and be restricted by cookidoo recipe when wanting to make this recipe or any stir-fry. I can already see my friends who are into baking and chocolate making loving this too! The ability to control heat precisely will make tasks like tempering chocolate or caramel much easier.

    • Steaming Mode: It comes with pre-set steaming times similar to those in the tables in previous TM cookbooks. While not essential, it’s a nice feature that adds convenience.

  • Smart Connectivity

Like the TM6, the TM7 comes with integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth®, ensuring access to the latest recipes and software updates. I’m excited to see what new features and innovations will be introduced in the future!

  • Improved Safety

The TM7 introduces a hidden locking system, a redesigned lid cap, and an improved knife locking lever, enhancing both safety and ease of use. It's good to see these new safety features.

5.User Experience: Guided & Manual Cooking

  • Customisable Home Screen

The TM7 lets you tailor your cooking experience with templates like “Daily Inspiration,” “Organising Myself,” and “Handy Tools.”

  • Tailored to Your Style

You can choose whether to start with Cookidoo’s guided recipes or jump straight into manual mode with handy ingredient presets in your main screen.

One other thing I like is that there in no more knob! Simply click 'Play' to start cooking and activate the blades.

You can now also add your own notes to the recipe in Cookidoo something the TM clients have asked for a while!

The scales have also been improved. Once you’ve added the required amount, the TM7 automatically recognizes it and moves to the next step without you having to click next in the guided recipe from Cookidoo—how cool is that?

  • Enhanced Touchscreen Usability

One of the standout improvements is the highly responsive touchscreen—even with wet fingers! If you've ever washed red peppers only to struggle with an unresponsive TM6 screen, you’ll appreciate this small but significant upgrade. I've been there, and this makes a real difference!

Check this video from @flohrsmixwelt to see how it works:

6.Upgrade Considerations

If you're considering upgrading from your TM31/TM5/TM6, here are some points to mull over:

  1. Enhanced Features: The TM7 offers extra cooking modes and smart connectivity for added flexibility. Will these features truly make your life easier or are they nice to have?

  2. Improved Ergonomics: The redesigned mixing bowl, lid, and spatula contribute to a smoother cooking experience. While these upgrades are nice to have, in my opinion, they're not absolutely essential.

  3. Quiet Operation: The quieter motor is a winner for me, especially with little ones around. Preparing meals without that constant background noise is a small detail that makes a big difference—whether the baby is napping next door or even in the sling while I cook! In fact, this will be ideal for evenings where I could make a meal without disturbing anyone’s sleep, and even during family gatherings, the silence will allow for natural conversation without interruption.

  4. What to Do with Your TM6? Can I trade in my old Thermomix TM6/TM5/TM31?: Since it doesn't seem likely that Thermomix will trade in the TM6 to TM7, think about who might benefit from your current machine. You might keep it, pass it on to a friend or family member, or even sell it second-hand. I've seen many families continue to enjoy a well-built TM for years. Maybe time to have two Thermomixes in your kitchen?

  5. Financial Considerations - Thermomix TM7 Ireland price & availability: In Ireland, the TM7 is priced at €1599, and in the UK, it's £1349. This comes as a one-off payment with delivery within 14 weeks of pre-ordering. 14 weeks from the day of pre-ordering so a bit of time to wait yet to have it in your kitchen.

  6. Thermomix Digital Cookidoo: With the TM7, you still get three months free access to Cookidoo. If you're already a member, you'll receive an extra three months on top of your current subscription. Plus, you can link up to five machines, which is perfect if, like me, you plan to keep your TM6 alongside the new one.

  7. Extra Accessories: Good news: the blade cover peeler and sensor all work with the TM7.

Bad news: the only accessory I'd need to upgrade is the cutter, as the bowl size has changed. I have been told the spiralizer attachment of the cutter will work with the new TM7 cutter but we will have to wait to test it.

The Thermomix Friend will not work with the TM7 bowl, only TM5 or TM6 bowl. You can still use the TM friend free-style (I always do) so I will be able to use it independently of TM7.

  8. Warranty: The TM7 comes with a two-year warranty.

  9. Where to buy Thermomix TM7 in Ireland? How to get a Thermomix TM7 in UK?: The Thermomix TM7 is not yet available for purchase in the UK and Ireland. It is currently only available for pre-order through an independent Thermomix advisor. If you're interested, I can help put you in contact with a knowledgeable and experienced long-term advisor who can guide you through the process. In other countries, such as Australia and the USA, pre-orders won’t open until mid-April, as availability is rolled out country by country. Make sure to check with your local Thermomix advisor / consultant for the latest updates on release dates in your region.

These are just my opinions, based on years of experience and the latest insights. Ultimately, your decision should reflect your personal cooking needs and lifestyle.

7.Final Thoughts

Is the TM7 worth the upgrade? The Thermomix® TM7 beautifully blends innovation with trusted tradition. While the TM6 has served me very well, the TM7’s enhanced features and smart design makes it very exciting to welcome a new member to the Thermomix family. After careful thought, I’ve decided I’m getting a TM7—it’s just a matter of when, not if. And thanks to the EU Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU), you also have a 14-day cooling-off period to return or exchange products purchased online so even if you pre-order today, you dont make the final decision until the 14 days from delivery which is great as you will get to see it in person and cook with it at home.

Why I’m Upgrading to the TM7

Looking back, the TM6 has been an absolute help in my kitchen, specially as I had my first daughter during this time. When I first got it, I was amazed by how much easier cooking became—the guided recipes in the screen without having to sync the cookkey, the automatic scales, and the egg boiler all felt revolutionary compared to my previous models. Over time, the TM6 continued to evolve with software updates, adding features like the Peeler, Cutter or TM Sensor, which completely changed how I bake. No more guessing if my bread or cakes were fully cooked—something that had always been a challenge with my unreliable oven.

But even with all these improvements, there were still moments when I thought, I wish this could be even easier. Struggling to detach the blades from the base, having to deal with the noise when cooking late at night, or feeling limited by the Varoma’s size when meal prepping for a busy week—these little frustrations added up.

When I saw the TM7, I realised it was designed to fix many of these small but significant challenges. A quieter motor means I can cook while my baby naps. The improved knife locking lever eliminates the hassle of disassembling the bowl. The larger Varoma lets me cook multiple components of a meal more efficiently. And the 10-inch touchscreen makes navigating recipes smoother than ever.

So, why am I upgrading? Because the TM7 isn’t just about having the latest technology—it’s about making my everyday cooking experience simpler, more intuitive, and ultimately, more enjoyable and when having small kids, that is all I want while cooking.

Although I no longer sell these machines as I am not an Independent Advisor, I remain passionate about sharing my experiences and insights with my community in Ireland and UK. After 12 years as advisor, I have met really nice clients and it is lovely to stay in touch. If you have any questions or simply want to share your thoughts about the TM7, please feel free to reach out. I would love to hear your thoughts about TM7.

And if you are new to the Thermomix family and you dont have an advisor yet in UK or Ireland, Spain, Australia or anywhere in the world, I will be happy to introduce you to one in my network.

What do you think? Let’s keep the conversation going—I’d love to hear your thoughts.
